MB's ALS page
I'm participating in the the 2017 Strike out ALS 5k for my 3nd year. My best and only friend from college, Juice (Justin Dodson) was diagnosed 3 years ago with ALS. When I found out, I had no idea what the diagsosis really meant, what treatments where available, best/worst case scenarios... After researching the disease, reality set in and I learned that the odds are against him. How could this happen to 2 time war veteran, Army Ranger in Iraq and Afganistan and serious Bad Ass, one of the few people I would trust with my life? 3 years later, he is fighing new challenges everyday as the disease progresses. Yet, he remains positive and is planning to marry a woman he met through his work with ALS.
Juice is a true hero, not only risking his life for all of our freedom but offering his valuable time to a cause greater than himself. When he was no longer able to work, he dedicated his life to the ALS Foundation, to raise awareness and help others cope with the disease. I am inspired by Justin's strength and courage.
I know I can not stop the disease or cure my friend by running a 5k but I want to do whatever I can to contribute. I don't know why I am so lucky to wake up healthy but it will motivate me to run for those who can't.
Everyday is a gift.
