WALK THE WALK.... ALS Walk For Life!
For more then a decade, I have walked in the ALS Walk for Life. It started small near Montrose Harbor here in chicago, and has moved to Soldier's Field the past few years because it has grown. Our team, Smitty's Laughing Fools, was created to honor Gary Smietanski. Since the team started we have all worked hard raising awareness for ALS. We have seen friends, or in my case family members like Randy Bergs, fight ALS.
What is ALS:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a type of motor neuron disease. It refers to a group of progressive, neurological diseases that cause dysfunction in the nerves that control muscle movement. This leads to muscle weakness and changes in how the body works. In the later stages, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) affects the nerves that control breathing, and this can be fatal. Most people with ALS will live for 3 to 5 years after first experiencing symptoms, There is no cure yet!
JUST IMAGINE BEING TRAPPED IN YOUR MIND, AS YOUR BODY STOPS WORKING AND YOU KNOW DEATH IS COMING. This is what a person suffering from ALS experiences daily.
This year my goal is to Raise 1000.00. That may not seem like much, but that money goes a long way to help find a cure. Please help me achieve my goal. As a bonus, ANYONE making a 100.00 donation to my cause will be entered in a raffle for 4 tickets to a Chicago Blackhawk hockey game this year.
Thank you for the help!
