Welcome to Joey's Fundraising Page
I am participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as part of Team Race for ALS because I have a friend who has been living with this disease for the last six years. Back in the summer of 2013, Eric Von Schaumburg was diagnosed with ALS. I had only known Eric as the older brother of my friend Josh but Eric was so inviting and quick to treat me as his friend. Even as years passed and symptoms worsened, Eric's vitality, enthusiasm and sense of humor never wavered. He quickly became an inspiration not only for me but for everyone around him.
There is no known cure for ALS and, once diagnosed, patients typically live only three to five years. These are alarming fact about ALS, but we can help change the course of the disease and ensure that progress is made towards finding life-enhancing treatments and a cure.
Despite the steep obstacles that receiving an ALS diagnosis poses, help and hope are within reach. Founded in 1977, the Les Turner ALS Foundation is the leader in comprehensive ALS care in Chicagoland. Although they're one of the largest independent ALS groups in the country, they treat each person like family and are commited to supporting them every step of the way. Their individualized approach ensures each person living with the disease receives the best quality of care and their local community of support provides their loved ones with answers and encouragement.
Please consider making a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal. Together, we can make an impact and create a world free of ALS.
Much love and thank you for your support!
