Dr. Kate Runs Chicago!
Full time veterinarian, business owner, mother and wife. I must be crazy wanting to train for a marathon on top of all that, but our dear friend Ray Spooner passed away last year after a battle with ALS and I wanted to do more than just run some 26.2 mile race. I wanted to do something that would be meaningful for all those who are suffering with ALS and those that will in the future, as well as remember Ray with a fitting athletic endeavor (although Ray would have thought a marathon was just a good warm up!). You see, Ray was an endurance cyclist. Many people have asked why I don't ride and the answer is simple: I fall off! A lot. I stick to running, a passion of mine for the past 15 years. Please support me as I run a marathon through my beautiful home town of Chicago to raise money for the fight to overcome this deadly disease.
The Les Turner ALS Foundation has been Chicago’s leader in ALS patient care and research since 1977. The money we raise together goes toward helping people currently living with ALS (PALS) and their families through the Foundation’s Home and Community Services and grant programs. It also supports the Les Turner ALS Research and Patient Center at Northwestern Medicine where PALS are seen by a multi-disciplinary clinical staff at the Lois Insolia ALS Clinic, ensuring no part of their disease goes unseen and untreated. The Center also supports three research laboratories, each one providing hope of a future without ALS. I joined Team Race for ALS this year because I believe in the work of the Les Turner ALS Foundation, I believe in providing the best possible care to ALS patients and their families and I believe that the money we raise together will lead to finding the cure for ALS. Join me as we strive to end ALS, one step at a time!
