The JEM Squad
Dear Family and Friends,
23 months ago our lives came to a momentary standstill. For days and weeks after Brian was diagnosed with ALS we walked around in a complete daze. We started educating ourselves: researching and seeking out the best medical care, researching clinical trials, traveling the U.S. to find skilled doctors, scientists, and researching alternative treatments. Throughout the process we received incredible support from you, our family and friends.
This last September Brian started receiving the FDA approved drug called Edaravone. It is the first drug therapy that has been FDA approved specifically for slowing the progression of ALS. As of today, there are no further signs of progression and Brian is still doing everything he was doing before the diagnosis (except drive to the hoop for a layup). But, as he reminds me, he is 60 years old!!
We continue to be positive and truly believe that Brian will continue to lead an active life. He’ll see Matt walk down the aisle and cradle his first grandchild in September (one of many, we hope). We’ll continue to travel, be with family, rejoice in every lifecycle event, and share many moments with you.
On September 29th, 2018 Les Turner is holding their annual Walk For Life in Solder's Field. We are organizing a team, JEM Squad, to participate in the Walk. The treatment, well-being and support of all of us living with ALS; patients, their caregivers and families, doctors and researchers, depends greatly on your participation at this event. Our team goal was initially $10,000.00. As of today 7/31/2018 we have exceeded our goal and we are not at $16,100.00. We cannot than you enough for the generous outpouring of love and support. Our new goal is 25K!! Help us get there.
Money that we raise from the ALS Walk for Life will help the Les Turner ALS Foundation fulfill its mission of providing people living with ALS, along with their families and caregivers, exceptional clinical care and support services. It will help advance scientific research into the causes, treatments and prevention of ALS. And, it will be used to educate the public and increase awareness of ALS.
I’ve come up with three ways you can help me:
1. Join me in the fight against ALS by participating with me at the event.
2. Help me reach my fundraising goal and make a donation.
3. Spread the word! Share this email with your friends and family and ask them to join you in supporting me at this event.
I hope each and everyone one of you will join us for the Walk For Life. If you cannot walk with us, please make a gift in Brian's honor. To sign up and be part of our team you can log on to the Les Turner ALS Foundation website for registration information. www.lesturnerals.org. Don't forget our team is the JEM Squad. If you are joining the team that means you are committed to help raise funds leading up to the Walk. You can view all the existing templetes to use to send to the individuals you would like to solicit as well as thank you notes that will be automatically generated. You can follow our progress to see how much we have raised as a team.
Every 90-minutes, someone in the US is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90-minutes, someone in the US dies of ALS. We are hoping that all of our efforts will pay off and that one day, before too long, there will be a cure.
