Miles for Monte
For almost 30 years, fall has always meant one thing for the Briner Family… walk time!
From 1990 until 1998, Monte, along with his family and friends, organized the annual Miles For Monte 5K in Lincolnshire, IL. During those eight years, Miles for Monte raised over a million dollars for ALS support services and research. The last Miles for Monte was held 1998 just a few months after Monte lost his battle with ALS.
In 2006, Team Miles For Monte participated in the annual Les Turner ALS Walk for Life for the first time. Since then, Team Miles for Monte has remained one of the event’s top fundraising teams, raising an additional $500,000 in Monte’s memory.
Since Monte’s passing in 1998, the Briner family has grown to include a new generation of ALS advocates. Monte has four grandchildren who have come to know his legacy. While they will never meet him, Jillian, Blake, Elliott and Charlie have come to know and love him through shared memories and our annual participation in the ALS Walk for Life. Every year, we are all reminded of his courage, tenacity, and commitment to helping others living with ALS. And, we are proud to share Monte’s determination that one day, no family will be living with ALS.
Thank you for joining us in our continued fight against ALS!
