Welcome to My Personal Fundraising Page
ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that destroys nerve cells, causing muscles in your body to atrophy until they no longer function. Patients lose the ability to walk, use their hands and arms, sit up, eat, communicate and breathe. They are in pain, and grieve each loss. Their families care for them 24/7, and for many, destroys them as well. Did you know the lifetime risk of developing ALS is just 1 in 300? There is no known cure for ALS and, once diagnosed, patients typically live only three to five years. These are alarming facts about ALS, but we can help change the course of the disease and ensure that progress is made towards finding life-enhancing treatments and a cure.
The Les Turner ALS Foundation is here to care for those affected by the disease, answer their questions and support them and their loved ones every step of their journey.
I am participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as part of Team Race for ALS because I believe in the mission of the Les Turner ALS Foundation! I believe in providing the best possible care to people living with ALS and their families in the Chicagoland area and I believe that the funds we raise together will lead to a cure for ALS.
This year, I am running in honor of my mom, who lost her battle in 2021. I am running in honor of David G, who lost his battle this year. The world is not the same without these two in it, or any of the other countless victims of this disease. I am running for my friend Trevor P, who is 34 years old with two young children, doing all that he can to watch them grown up and depleting all his savings to do so.
Please consider making a donation if you can and if not, please just know ALS. Together, we can make an impact and create a world free of ALS.
