Papa Pete's PALS
Only 1 of 20 teams to walk all 23 years!
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to ask your help with something that is very important to our family. On Saturday, September 14, 2024, we will be participating in raising monies for ALS through the ALS Walk4Life. The reason this event is important to us is my father, Peter, passed away due to this disease October 30, 2005. Seeing what this disease can do has strengthened our family's resolve to do what we can to raise money to aid in a cure for this disease.
ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With all voluntary muscle action affected, patients in the later stage of the disease become totally paralyzed. Yet, through is all, for the vast majority of people, their minds remaining unaffected. This disease affects more than 30,000 people in the US and there is no cure.
